Lidl in the Works in Woodstock

It was announced back in June that the German grocery Lidl had purchased warehouse space in Cartersville, bringing jobs and, presumably, Lidl stores to the area. Lidl is a discount grocer similar in concept and a direct competitor to the Aldi brand. And while the store is relatively new in the U.S., there are over 10,000 locations in 26 various countries.

Woodstock approved a Lidl in 2016 on Highway 92 near Trickum Road. Construction on that location is tentatively beginning this fall, according to City Manager Jeff Moon. The 36,000 square foot store would sit on on 5 acres and should be open by 2018.

Last week, the Cherokee Tribune announced that Lidl had been exploring space in Canton near the Riverstone Parkway area, and that a proposal from Lidl to the city was rejected, siting design flaws. Rumors of Lidl coming to Canton have been circulating for a couple of years now, so we are remaining hopeful that the company lands there at some point in the future.
