The Derby Announced for the Marietta Square

Since hearing about the closing of Ye Olde Christmas and Candy Shoppe on the Marietta Square, we have been waiting to hear what would move in to the prime location next to the Earl Smith Strand Theater.

The owners of the Butcher the Baker and WR Social House have acquired the space and announced on The Derby their Facebook page that they plan to open “The Derby”. A raw bar, wood fired, and cocktail menu was all that was teased in a video clip. We have been told that more information will be coming soon, so stay tuned for updates.

Marietta native Sterling Whorton and Micah and Katie Pfiser are the people behind WR Social House and The Butcher The Baker. According to the Marietta Daily Journal, in addition to the Derby announcement, the team has purchased the former Sessions Street Grill a mile off the Square and plan to convert the space into a bakery, pastry and coffee shop and operate as Katie Pfister’s baking kitchen. There is also plans to serve light appetizers on-the-go or to be enjoyed at the space, such as cheese plates and charcuterie boards.

With these new restaurants opening on the Square, the new valet parking program that was just announced couldn’t have come at a better time.
